The Stranger in Your Midst

This week’s reading from the Torah, Ekev, is especially relevant to our times, especially the part that reminds the Jews to “Respect the stranger in your midst, because you were strangers in Egypt.” Haaretz reports that a new Arabic language newspaper is being initiated in Israel. I hope the project goes well, and that it lends itself to strengthening the loyalty of Arabic citizens of the State to the State of Israel, such that there will be no barrier real or imagined to fully integrating the Arabic citizens of Israel into the State’s everyday life.
