Democracy at Work

The Israeli High Court has ordered the Israeli ministry of defense to reroute the Fence, stating that “This route has created such hardship for the local population that the state must find an alternative that may give less security but would harm the local population less. These alternative routes do exist.”
Funny, I didn’t know that a State’s Supreme Court has the right to force the government to provide “less security.” I’d think that a democratic state would still be concerned with providing maximum security to its citizens. Yeah, I think the route should change. But such a change should not be made at the expense of the security of the citizens of Israel.
